Senior Compliance Specialist

We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Senior Compliance Specialist at our Kingsville office.

The Senior Compliance Specialist, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, will be responsible for ensuring our organization sets and adheres to legal standards and internal policies while also overseeing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives. This role will support Red Sun Farms' vision to be an industry leader in the areas of compliance and sustainable practices. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of regulatory and legal knowledge, an understanding of policy and procedure development, and a proactive approach to process improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities

Compliance Management

  • Develop, implement, and monitor the organization’s compliance programs to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on all compliance related matters, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and standards
  • Determines and understands mandatory reporting requirements to meet all relevant regulatory obligations, annual Federal, Provincial, and State reporting, government acts and regulations, and year-end reporting
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to minimize exposure, assessing potential risks and implementing preventative measures to ensure the organization's operations remain compliant and secure.

ESG Oversight

  • Integrates an organization's ESG plans into the supply chain, and business operations to establish a unified approach to meeting the ESG goals
  • Assesses an organization's short-term, medium-term, and long-term ESG goals (and associated risks and solutions) to formulate a strategy that will meet its goals and mandatory reporting requirements
  • Key liaison with sales staff to address customer portal ESG reporting requirements
  • Analyzes industry best practices, and other stakeholder requirements to identify emerging sustainability trends and guide strategic ESG planning.

Vendor Management

  • Develop and maintain vendor onboarding procedures, including due diligence checks and risk assessments
  • Coordinate with leadership, supply-chain, and legal teams to ensure all vendor agreements comply with organization policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, promoting ethical and sustainable business practices.

Policy and Procedure

  • Draft, review, and update compliance and ESG policies and procedures, ensuring they are aligned with legal requirements and industry standards
  • Implement systems and controls to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address opportunities and ensure seamless policy implementation and adherence.


  • A bachelor's degree in Law, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field required
  • 4+ years in compliance management or relevant experience, with a strong understanding of compliance requirements, ESG principles, policies and procedures, and vendor management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and develop effective mitigation strategies
  • Ability to work with a high degree of independence, while effectively escalating issues when necessary
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Previous experience with cross border compliance in both Canada and the US is preferred
  • Previous experience with compliance practices in Mexico is an asset.
